The Church of the Holy Forty Martyrs is one of the most emblematic medieval churches in Veliko Tarnovo, located at the foot of the Tsarevets Castle. It has been a cultural monument since 1964, closely connected with the history of Bulgaria. It was built and painted in honor of the victory of Tsar Ivan Asen. The second (Ivan Asen II) on Theodore Komnenos Doukas, ruler of Epirus at the Battle of Klokotenitsa in March 1230, the church consists of two parts; A rectangular church with six columns and an annex is on the western side of the building.
