The Hovnungstolen mine was first discovered in the Black Forest region in 1798 AD, and magnetic pyrites and nickel ore were excavated in open mining and processed for commercial use. In 2000, the mine reopened, but this time as a museum, and the entire mine area was designed to be family friendly , so that the deep section is also accessible for strollers and wheelchairs. Visitors can see mining tools, excavations and even some of the minerals and precious stones that have been obtained.
