Grodno Zoo was founded in 1927 as the first zoo in Belarus on the initiative of high school teacher Jan Kochanowski, a nature lover. In 1926, Kochanovsky, with his students, established a botanical garden in the city park, which in 1927 received the first unique animals in all of the country. Today, the park includes the largest concentration of local and wild animals and birds, so that it has become a destination for families and children, and one of the city's distinctive tourist attractions.
