The Great Mosque of Sousse is a historical mosque in the coastal city of Sousse, Tunisia. Its construction dates back to 851 during the rule of the Aghlabid dynasty of the Abbasid Caliphate, commissioned by Prince Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn al-Aghlab. It was renovated and restored several times during the tenth and seventeenth centuries, and it is adjacent to Rabat. Sousse, which affected the appearance of the mosque, which is fortified with a wall with balconies and watchtowers overlooking the beach, enabling it to face the attackers from behind. This mosque has a rectangular structure consisting of a courtyard that includes a group of corridors and columns, and the prayer hall opens to it. It does not have a minaret, and this may be because the high ribat tower, which was formerly a minaret, is located near it, and it is worth mentioning that the Great Mosque of Sousse was included in List of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
