The traditional village of Swago is located in the vicinity of the beautiful Peneda Gerais National Park. Its quaint houses and small church create a charming image, but it is especially famous for its granite warehouses built above ground supported by a set of granite slabs, to protect food crops from mice and other rodents. Between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the oldest dating back to 1782, and of the 24 storerooms remaining today, some are still used to store grain, especially corn.
