In 1756, the Leipzig merchant and architect Johann Caspar Richter commissioned the construction of a summer palace, the Göhlis Palace. The architecture, interior design and orange pavilions that flank the building at either end make the palace a fine example of Saxon Baroque architecture; The palace reopened in 1998 after undergoing a complete restoration. Today, the palace is a venue for concerts, theatrical performances and exhibitions, as well as a restaurant and café.
