The German Clock Museum is located near the center of the Black Forest and is a historical center of watchmaking. It houses several galleries specializing in the history of timekeeping clocks. The museum is part of the local technical college Fort Wangen (Hochschule Furtwangen). The museum is dedicated to the history of timers. The museum contains an extensive collection of clocks and other artifacts related to horology, not only those from the Black Forest, but also clocks from around the world spanning from prehistoric times to the present. The collection includes early 18th century cuckoo clocks as well as souvenir models of modern Black Forest clocks. The works of the famous engineer Robert Gerwig formed the initial basis for the museum.
