In 1536, the Pomegranate Gate became the official entrance to the Alhambra. It was designed by the architect Pedro Machuca, the same architect to whom the Palace of Carlos V is attributed. On the door there are many allegorical figures symbolizing peace and abundance, crowned with three large pomegranates. which gave it its name, and this door had replaced another Islamic door whose remains can be seen on its right side.
