Garda Island is the largest island located in the lake of the same name. The island has a long and ancient history, as it was used at one time as a Roman cemetery, and at another time it was a hideout for pirates, and was also the site of a Franciscan monastery, and was used as a border fortress as well. Today, it is distinguished by its uniquely Gothic Venetian villa designed by architect Luigi Rovelli in the early twentieth century.
