Information about Franciscan Church
It is one of the oldest churches in Salzburg, Austria. The church was dedicated to the Virgin Mary and functioned as a parish church until 1635. It was ceded to the Franciscan Order in 1642. It would be impossible to imagine Salzburg's skyline without the Franciscan church and its slender domes. Architecturally, it consists of two parts, the original Romanesque nave of the basilica and the Late Gothic parish hall with a star-ribbed vault. The first unique feature can be observed at the entrance in the so-called asylum hand. It is an old and beautiful place with a distinctive decoration and is very important for the local Christians in Salzburg.
