A fortification dating back to the 19th century, built right after the unification of Italy to fend off land attacks from the city, the castle was an important connection point between northern and southern Italy. The fortress is surrounded by a large moat equipped with three defensive zones. In the eighties of the twentieth century, the castle was demilitarized and turned into a public park for the city. The castle is located within a beautiful natural area that has been planted with a group of colorful plants, trees and flowers. Many national events, concerts and various festivals are also held in it.
