A fortress built in 1878. Not only is this fort a unique relic of Malta's British colonial past, it is the world's first mechanical fortress. The fort was equipped with a new steam-driven hydraulic system. The fort has recently undergone extensive restoration and improvement. A new 20-minute audio-visual clip has been added explaining the history of the fort. There are also afternoon tours conducted each day by 19th century Victorian soldiers. These tours guarantee a reenactment of historical life and live it using military signs, guns, military cooking, lots of original historical equipment and weapons and more.
