Information about Fontana di Nettuno
The Neptune Fountain is the second fountain to be built by Italian sculptor and architect Giovanni Angelo Montorsoli in Messina after the famous Orion Fountain, commissioned by the city council. It is a fountain made of marble depicting the taming of Neptune (the god of the sea) of the raging sea, and two monsters stand next to it. A bronze statue of Carl Bourbon was added to the fountain in 1848 AD, two centuries after its first foundation. In various cities of Italy, this fountain in Messina is considered one of the three most important huge fountains dedicated to Neptune in the country.
