Information about Etruscan Arch
The Etruscan Arch or Augustus Gate is one of the eight gates in the Etruscan wall in Perusia known today as Perugia. It is one of the only gates surviving besides Porta Marzia in the south. Built in the second half of the 3rd century BC, the arch was restored by Augustus in 40 BC after his victory in the Perusine War. This gate represents the best surviving Etruscan city gate throughout history. The arch is part of a massive set of 30-foot-high and 9,500-foot-tall limestone walls installed without cement.
