It is an ethnographic museum focusing on non-European peoples. The museum's collection included more than 30,000 artifacts, of which about 2,500 are in the gallery attached to the museum. This included paintings and pots from diverse cultures in Africa, America, Asia and Oceania, as well as images from the South Pacific and African masks. Textiles from pre-Plumulum cultures, there were also exhibitions of Asian sculptures, paintings, ceramics and weapons in the museum.
