This site, located in the village of Ildırı, is one of the ruins of one of the twelve leading Ionian cities of antiquity, and one of the important settlements in the ancient Aegean world, the city of Erythrai. It had a wonderful trading port for several centuries, in the Roman period, as it was still in use since 88 BC, showing Erythrai as an important center reflecting eastern connections in the Ionian region, and ancient excavations reveal that this port played an active role in the changes Social politics in Ionia in the fourth century.
