Idukki is a huge national park of 97 square kilometres, the first of its kind in Kerala. The main part of the park consists of a high plateau covered with mature evergreen trees. Within the park's territory is also the highest Indian peak of the Himalayas. A delegation in which more than 26 species of mammals were recorded, including monkeys, sambar deer, golden jackals, wild dogs and others.
