The Eliyahu Hanbi Synagogue is one of the two remaining synagogues in Alexandria, where there were twelve. Eliahu Hanavi is one of the witnesses to the disappearance of the Jewish community. The synagogue is now located in the heart of Alexandria, and can accommodate 700 worshipers. It was the last functioning synagogue in Egypt until it was closed in 2012 due to security concerns. The synagogue was distinguished by its huge architectural design, which includes spacious courtyards, ornate walls and muqarnas, and visitors today visit it as a historical museum to witness the beauty of architecture.
