El Rey Archaeological Zone is one of the most famous historical tourist attractions in Cancun, and is famous for its amazing monuments dating back to the Mayan civilization, which includes forty-seven multifunctional buildings. Archaeologists have found the remains of frescoes and drawings dating back to the post-classical period, and its name "El Ray", which means king, goes back to a statue resembling a king that was discovered inside it.
