The East Side Gallery in Berlin is the longest stretch of the old Berlin Wall still standing. Often described as a monument to freedom, it displays paintings by artists from around the world. It documents the artwork, which began to appear in 1990, the time that has passed after the fall of the Berlin Wall, as well as an expression of hope for the future. Sections of the wall have been moved to facilitate repair and other parts have been damaged by erosion and vandalism.
