Information about Colossus of Rhodes
The Colossus of Rhodes is a statue of the Greek sun god Helios, erected in the city of Rhodes on the Greek island of the same name by Charus of Lindos in 280 BC. It was classified as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and was built to celebrate the victory of Rhodes over the ruler of Cyprus Antigonius Monophthalmus, who besieged his son Demetrius I of the Macedonians of Rhodes in 305 BC. It is also mentioned in the accounts that the giant's length is about 70 cubits, or 33 meters (108 feet) - an approximate height of the Statue of Liberty from feet to crown - making it the tallest statue in the ancient world.
