The Church of St. Donata, originally known as the Church of the Holy Trinity, is the largest and most important pre-Romanesque church in Croatia, and is considered a true symbol of Zadar. The church was originally built in the nineteenth century, and it witnessed many conflicts and wars, but it has remained steadfast to this day. It was characterized by a contemporary and distinctive design that resembles the Romanesque building, with huge domes, high ceilings, and distinctively designed exterior facades. Although many churches were established in the area, the Church of St. Donata has its own sanctity and importance that distinguishes it from other places of worship.
