Tourists and locals walk through ancient stone streets to reach the church of Agios Spyridon in the old town of Naviglio. This church has great religious and tourist importance because it contains Byzantine icons, murals and ancient paintings that tell important chapters of the history of Christianity. The church also has historical and political importance to the Greeks. Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first elected president of Greece, was assassinated when he was going to pray there. Some of the bullets witnessing the assassination are still stuck in the outer walls of the church.
