It is a Greek Orthodox church and one of the oldest churches in Athens. It was built on the ruins of an ancient temple. It was established at the beginning of the eleventh century. The walls of the church are built in the classic masonry made of kilsonone and are decorated with very small decorations of kufic bricks, with mosaics above the entrance, and wonderfully beautiful domes. The church contains amazing frescoes dating back to 1955 and bearing the signature of the writer and painter Fotis Kontoglou. The church is also one of the main important historical monuments.
