The Congregados Church was built between 1662 and 1680 for the congregation of Santo Antonio. During the Siege of Porto (1832-1833), this church became a military hospital and weapons storage facility. In 1934 King Pedro IV ordered the extinction of the religious orders. The monastery and church were sold to a private businessman in Auctioned, and in 1836, the church was returned to the Congregados Brethren and was completely restored.
