Information about Chiang Mai National Museum
The National Museum in Chiang Mai was opened in 1973 by the King of Thailand, and contains a collection of exhibitions on the history of Chiang Mai, as well as the history of the Lanna kingdom. The museum is also an important educational center trying to preserve the art and culture of northern Thailand. Built with traditional architecture, Chiang Mai National Museum displays a beautiful multi-style Lanna-style ceiling. Inside there is a range of exhibits including the history and art of the Lanna kingdom, and how Chiang Mai has changed since the rule of Siam (now Thailand). Ancient jewelry and pottery are displayed, and an explanation is written on each display in both English and Thai.
