The Tower of Santiago is a famous lookout point and one of the main entrances to the city. It still retains its medieval appearance, contrasting with the Roquel style that was added to its northern façade. Its building is divided into two parts: the upper part is dominated by the stone clock and the bell tower, while below is the Church of Our Lady of the Tower which It was added in the eighteenth century by André Soares as an act of thanksgiving to Our Lady for protecting the College in the great earthquake of 1755 that wreaked havoc throughout the country.
