One of the most remarkable features of the city of Shangua is that it contains a number of cultural religious temples, the most prominent of these temples is the Shangua Temple of Confucius, which provided the most complete educational system than any public educational institution in Taiwan, and this Confucian temple played an important role in the cultural and educational development of Central Taiwan. Shanghwa Temple is the only one in Taiwan that has brick carvings, flowers and birds engraved on the walls, and is a valuable architectural model that still reflects traditional architecture.
