Located in the famous Pena Park, Chalet Countess of Edla was built by King Ferdinand II and his second wife, Elise Hensler; Countess of Edla, between 1864 and 1869, in keeping with the Alpine chalet model that was popular in Europe at the time, recently reopened to the public after a long process of renovation and restoration after its building was destroyed by fire in 1999. The building is very picturesque and features exterior plaster painted to imitate wood cladding. Cork has been used a lot as a decorative element to decorate it and to cover door and window frames, cornices and balconies.
