Located in the diocese of Alter do Cau, the Fountain of the Republic Square was built in 1556 by order of Teodósio I Duque de Bragança elsewhere on the square and moved to its present location in the mid-17th century. The architecture is in the Renaissance style, consisting of a double dome supported by three columns, all of estremos marble.
