Information about Cesme Castle
During the growth of the Ottoman Empire, Cemci was subjected to two attacks by the Venetians in 1472 and 1501, the fortress was built as a precaution against further attacks. It was built in 1508, during the reign of the Ottoman Sultan Bayezit II, and its commissioner was Mir Heydar, ruler of Eidin Vilayet. This castle was originally coastal, but due to alluvial deposits, it moved away from the shore a little. The castle with a rectangular plan contains moats on three sides with six bastions. The monument of Cizirli Gazi Hasan Pasha is located in front of the castle. The castle houses the Chimci Museum. It is also used as the center of the Chimci International Music Festival which is held every year.
