Information about St Pierre Cathedral
The history of Saint-Pierre Cathedral dates back to 1150 AD, and the Romanesque church located at the highest point in the old city of Geneva is distinguished by its magnificent Gothic-inspired building. This church had a great role in the period of the Protestant Reformation, in which Geneva played an important role, as the name was changed to the Temple de Saint-Pierre and became a Protestant church. John Calvin, one of the founders of the Protestant movement, preached here between 1536 and 1564, and his followers removed the altars and paintings, leaving only the carvings and stained glass from the original building.
