Setenil de las Bodegas fortress was built during the Islamic conquest of Spain, and it is likely that it dates back to the Almohad period, ie to the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. This fortress was the main defensive structure of the city, and a difficult obstacle to invaders. The city was liberated from Islamic occupation in the year 1484, after fierce battles that lasted for years, and the castle was destroyed several times. Only one of its huge towers and some walls remains of the castle at the present time. Visitors come to explore it and learn about its long history and the civilizations that passed through it.
