Located on the northern side of the Agua de Pau mountain range on the outskirts of the Lake Fogo Nature Reserve, the Caldera Velha occupies a large area of rugged terrain deeply embedded in a valley surrounded by massive cliffs, and offers a range of distinctive volcanic features such as a smoke field and a pond of water from the thermal aquifer deep and heated by the internal heat of the Agua de Pau volcano.
