Bo Kaap is one of Cape Town's most exclusive neighborhoods, with plenty to see and explore. It is located between Cape Town's city center and the foothills of Signal Hill, named after the Afrikaans phrase meaning 'above the head'. Today, the neighborhood is known as one of the most popular in the country, thanks to its light-coloured homes and picturesque cobbled streets. In addition, the neighborhood is one of Cape Town's oldest and most historic residential areas, and most of it is synonymous with Cape Malay Islamic culture that can be found throughout the region, from its halal restaurants to the sound of the call to prayer from mosques.
