The Black Gunpowder Museum is integrated into the old Barcarena gunpowder factory complex and opened in 1998 in the Mill House with the aim of preserving the valuable industrial heritage and creating cultural and recreational facilities open to the public. With many wonderful moments in the history of Sintra, the museum consists of four collections dealing with the following topics: the invention, diffusion and composition of gunpowder, the beginnings of the Barcarena gunpowder industry, the reopening of the Royal Barcarina Gunpowder Factory, and the activity of the factory in the 19th and 20th centuries.
