The large beach is located on the eastern banks of the mouth of the Arad River, which is a wide sandy expanse bounded at the northern end by a small cliff, on the top of which is the 16th century fortress of São João de Arad, which was originally built to defend the coast from pirates. Today, there are many tourist facilities such as cafes and shops, and it is considered one of the most popular beaches in the area, which makes it very crowded in the summer months.
