Information about Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe
Recently inscribed on the List of Natural and Cultural World Heritage Sites, the Bergpark Wilhelmschöhe Park extends over an area of approximately 560 hectares and was the first mountain park in the world to be awarded this honor. For this, UNESCO decided that the park and garden should be an excellent example of European architecture and landscape horticulture. The park stretches from the majestic Monument of Hercules beyond the 350-meter-long waterfall system to Wilhelmshaw Palace and beyond, where the palace served as a summer residence for land farmers and Kassel voters until 1866 CE, and later for the Prussian kings and the German Kaiser. One of the most famous features of the park is the octagonal statue of Hercules, which is important in forming an unparalleled identity in the north of Hesse, and you can see the statue from anywhere in Kassel. The park is located at an altitude of 596 meters above sea level.
