Bastion de France is considered one of the most important and most famous archaeological sites in the state of El Tarf. It is located in the town of El Kala overlooking the beach. It dates back to 1552 AD and was used at the time as a commercial site for fishermen. It was owned by a French merchant who worked on building it to secure his family’s trade, and it was an important connection point with French cities. Especially the city of Marseille, and the coral trade through it has flourished greatly, and today tourists can visit the site of the fortress, see the remains of it and learn about its history.
