The Vanasura Sagar Dam is a sand dam established in 1979, established to support the Indian hydroelectric project and to meet the demand for irrigation and drinking water in the region. It is the largest earthen dam in India and the second largest of its kind in Asia. The dam's reservoir contains a group of small islands that were formed when the waters of the reservoir inundated the surrounding areas.
