This gate is one of the seven gates that make up the city walls, which is located on the eastern side of the old city, and was built in the middle of the sixteenth century, and it has long been called the “Gate of the Sea” because from there the locals of that time went to Martil It is a coastal town along the Mediterranean Sea. As for the design of the large door, it consists of the main gate and a secondary entrance on the side. The fountain located directly inside the gate is distinguished by typical Tetouan tiles and inscriptions from the eighteenth century verses praising the city’s ruler, Omar Lugash. The door is considered one of the most important historical monuments preserved in the city of Tetouan, which was included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
