Ashtamudi Lake is a stagnant lake in the heart of Kollam city, and one of the most visited places in the city, because it is unique and does not take an oval or rectangular shape, but rather branches in a strange way, which some compare to an octopus. The lake is known for the health resorts scattered around it, which people come to for medical tourism from all parts of the planet. Coconut groves and palm trees are spread along both banks of the lake.
