Information about Archibald Fountain
The Archibald Fountain, properly called the Archibald Memorial Fountain, is located in Hyde Park, in central Sydney, and was sculpted by François-Léon Sicard, one of the most prominent sculptors of his time, a French artist who learned classical art. Drawing inspiration at least in part from his study of classical Greek and Roman art and literature, his choice of classical figures in this fountain was in keeping with the European traditions of sculpture and architecture in the Hyde Park region, so Archibald's Fountain is one of Australia's oldest and most famous public fountains, a place for tourist photos, and political gatherings, as it is characterized by its distinguished location amidst beautiful and picturesque landscapes, surrounded by trees and flowers, it is a distinctive and exceptional landmark, visited by everyone from all parts.
