The archaeological site of Mayapan has an area of 2.5 miles and dates back to the late Postclassic period or the period before the Spanish conquest of the area. It contains about 4,000 ancient Mayan structures, and a variety of archaeological materials have been found in it, including ceramics, frescoes, stucco carvings and other items that shed light on the rich history of the Mayan civilization.
