Information about Amasya Low Bridge
The Amasya Bridge is the only bridge in the city center that has survived from Roman times, and is made entirely of cut stone. Because the river level rose and the river bed filled up over time, it lost its height and became known as the "low bridge" among the people. This bridge was used until 1855 AD. Zia Pasha thought the bridge was dangerous, so he built another bridge with 11 pedestrian lanes on the stone bridge. In 1881, The ruler of Amasya made use of the unused church stones and reconstructed the second bridge over it with even greater strength. The bridge was renovated in 1965 with concrete and iron connections. The picturesque nature of Amasya adds a special and distinctive beauty to the bridge .
