In the northern part of Amasra lies a fortress of mixed Roman, Byzantine and Genoese heritage, characterized by heavy sandstone walls, and this castle often weaves into the main image of the cityscape today. The castle also features the Little Harbor Gate, which guards the Roman Bridge (Kemer Bridge), the tall walls that support Hisar Ville, and the footpath running east to west, along the northern half of the promontory.
