The Old Port is Bremerhaven's first artificial harbor basin, which was established in the period between 1827-1830, and a group of Dutch entrepreneurs were commissioned to implement because they had the necessary technical and organizational knowledge in hydraulic engineering. Large parts of the old port were renovated and the old dock was restored in 1999. The museum is home to some of Germany's most famous open air museums.
