The bridge between Ottawa and Gatineau was built between 1898 and 1900, and is located on the Ottawa River. At the time of construction, the bridge was the longest in Canada and the fourth longest in the world, and on February 18, 1901 the bridge was officially opened as the Interprovincial Bridge. The name was changed in September 1901 to Alexandra Bridge in honor of the new queen during her son's visit.
