Information about Al-Rifa'i Mosque
Al-Rifa'i Mosque is located near Salah El-Din Citadel in Cairo, opposite its historical counterpart, the Sultan Hassan Mosque and Madrasah. The mosque was built over a period of 43 years, and was finally completed in 1912 AD, and was built as part of the plan of Egypt’s rulers in the nineteenth century to modernize the capital and embrace the glory years of Egypt’s Islamic history. The mosque’s design - especially the dome and minaret - is particularly influenced by Mamluk architecture. The mosque is also called the Royal Mosque, as it is the final resting place of a number of members of the modern Egyptian royal family.
