Behind the southern walls of Fatimid Cairo and directly across the street from Bab Zuweila stands a unique place in modern Cairo, the Khayamiya Market, a high-roofed alley lined with stalls where traders in Cairo have been selling their wares for centuries. Find colorful carpets, tapestries, quilted pillowcases and wall hangings, but the market takes its name from tent makers who offer tapestries made of colorful canvas and decorated with traditional Islamic designs reminiscent of the inlaid marble that adorns mosques.
